Vincents’ directors and staff regularly participate in activities that will contribute towards growing a better community. Our involvement is varied and can include attendance, fundraising, promoting, hosting, sponsorships, one-off donations and other ad hoc activities.
Responsibility for our environment
No doubt there is a feel-good factor working in an environmentally conscious workplace, but efficient and effective practices also make good business sense.
Some of Vincents’ sustainability strategies include:
- Operating our Brisbane HQ within 6 Star Green Star premises – read more about Santos Place
- Using recycled and chemical-free materials whenever possible
- Reducing waste by using only what’s necessary and recycling or re-using materials
- Limiting the use of plastics and other harmful materials
- Implementing and promoting energy efficient practices
Responsibility for our community
Our approach to community contributions is both formal and informal. While we have more formal activities in place, we actively encourage staff to bring to our attention causes close to their hearts and promote involvement within the firm. Below are some of the more recent activities that we have been involved in:
Each year the winner of the Vincents Cup, awarded to a staff member that has made a significant contribution to the firm or the community, nominates a charity close to heart for Workplace Giving. Staff can choose to donate to the charity by having small amounts deducted from each pay. At the end of each financial year, Vincents then matches all money donated by staff and a cheque is presented to the chosen charity.
About – Redkite is the only national organisation that provides professional support to children, young people and their whole family through the entire cancer journey.
Redkite’s real and practical support services include financial and educational assistance, support in hospitals through social workers and music therapists, community-based support including telephone/email counselling and professionally-facilitated telegroups.
Our involvement – Since May 2011 Jonathan Dooley (Director – Forensic) has served on the Queensland Regional Council of Redkite, a charity that provides support to children and young people diagnosed with cancer and their families.
About – The PwC Cool Night Classic Corporate Run/Walk is a 5km event aimed to get people active and help Queensland charities continue to grow. Every year, this popular event attracts over 4,000 participants from the local business community. In its 17th year (in 2011), the event has helped raise more than $480,000 in vital funds for various chosen charities.
Our involvement – A nice change from the early morning wake up for Bridge to Brisbane, Vincents also sponsors a team for the PwC Cool Night Classic Corporate Run/Walk.
About – Celebrating its 15th year in 2011, participants run or walk either a 10km or 5km course over the Gateway Bridge, finishing at the RNA Showgrounds. This annual fun run benefits a different major charity partner each year. In total $251,999 was raised for Legacy Queensland in 2011, and Kids Help Line has been named as the 2012 major charity partner.
Our involvement – Each year Vincents’ staff hit the pavement for the Bridge to Brisbane fun run. In addition to sponsoring our team, Vincents also contributes to charities that individual staff members are running or walking to raise money for. In 2011 Vincents sponsored runners for Redkite, Animal Welfare League of QLD and UNICEF.
About – The BRW Corporate Triathlon focuses on promoting important corporate values such as teamwork, company pride, and loyalty within a fun supportive environment. Some enter for fun, others for corporate rivalry, whether it’s to beat your colleagues, challenge your company competitors, or to be the best in the industry!
Our involvement – In 2013 two Vincents teams participated in the 400m swim, 10km bike ride and 4km run. We are proud to announce our mens team came 4th overall out of 79 teams and women’s team 60th. Congratulations to both teams!
About – MND and Me raises awareness of people living with Motor Neurone Disease, a disease with no known cause, no known cure, and no effective treatment.
Our involvement – Vincents’ staff slip into their cossies for the inaugural MW Recruitment Swimming Carnival against other professional services firms to raise money for people suffering from motor neurone disease. The competition is always intense (particularly in the relays at the end!) and the auctioning off of sporting superstars to firms always proves to be a big drawcard and a big source of fundraising for MND. Thank you to all those staff that swim for Vincents and who turn up in support each year.
The Vincents Cup
The Vincents Cup recognises the Vincents staff member who has made a significant contribution to the firm or their community each financial year. Staff are asked to nominate their fellow colleagues and, in addition to holding the cup for the year, the winner nominates the firm’s Workplace Giving charity for the year.

This year’s Vincents Cup was awarded to Dean for his efforts in driving the Graduate Training Program and his dedication to professional development in and outside of work. Dean’s nominated workplace giving charity was The MND and Me Foundation – a not for profit organisation that was formed to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and its’ impact in the community.
Kain has been involved in Vincents’ Chartered Accountants In-House Mentoring program since it commenced in 2010 and has played an integral role in its ongoing development. The program has achieved great success, most recently was the Financial Accounting & Reporting module and achieved a 90% pass rate. Kain is a great role model and promoter of the Vincents Values.
Kain’s chosen charity is Aunties and Uncles Queensland, a program for vulnerable and disadvantaged children aged 1 – 12 years. Mentors have an immense, long lasting impact on these children by helping them to experience stability and the benefits of an extended family.
Kathy is an integral member of the practice support team and she ensures the smooth operation of all catering and housekeeping across the firm. Her work ethic and pride for Vincents is demonstrated in the way she operates every day.
In addition to being ‘holder of the cup’, Kathy selected our workplace giving charity, The Salvation Army.
Barb has a strong work ethic which often sees her working before and after hours, is always willing to help and is pivotal in the efficient operation of the Business Advisory unit. Barb also finds time to raise money for charity, most recently completing the Oxfam 100km Walk in 28 hours!
Barbara’s chosen charity is Alzheimer’s Australia Research, which is the peak body providing support and advocacy for the 257,000 Australians living with dementia.
Jill has made an outstanding contribution to the firm for the past 28 years. She has worked through a number of organisation changes and continues to be our rock.
Jill is the foundation of firm knowledge and our payroll superstar.
Her chosen charity was Worldwide Society for the Protection of Animals, a charity that aims to promote animal welfare.
Theo and his wife Jenny have undertaken long and short term foster care of more than 40 children since 1992, many of whom came from backgrounds of neglect and abuse.
Theo and Jenny also support seven orphans in a small orphanage and school in western Uganda whose parents have died from HIV.
Theo and Jenny, along with their own children, are tirelessly motivated to help others and demonstrate tremendous understanding and patience.
Theo’s chosen charity was Bravehearts, a charity founded to stop child sexual abuse.
Christiane won the inaugural Vincents’ Cup for outstanding performance over her many years at Vincents, but in particular for her efforts during our merger in 2008.
This involved not only the merging of two companies, but the merging of two offices and the relocation to our current premises.
Christiane worked tirelessly throughout the year and beyond to manage these complicated and lengthy changes.
Christiane’s chosen charity was The Smith Family Learning for Life Program, a program that aims to provide children with an education.
