The Queensland Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) has announced that HR support grants of up to $5,000 (excl. GST) are now available for small businesses.

These grants are designed to assist small businesses in addressing their workforce challenges.

Small businesses eligible for the grant must:

  • Have an active ABN and demonstrate their principal place of business in QLD; and
  • Be registered for GST; and
  • Have at least one paid employee (excluding the business owner) but fewer than 20 employees (excluding the business owner); and
  • Have an annual turnover of less than $10 million and can demonstrate at least 50% of the business’s income is generated directly from the business; and
  • Have owners/directors who are not insolvent or bankrupt; and
  • Have identified an immediate need for HR support;  and
  • Work with an Industry Workforce Advisor to complete a workforce plan that clearly identifies the workforce challenges and solutions to address these immediate HR needs through the use of the HR Support grant.

Who are Industry Workforce Advisors?

Industry Workforce Advisors have been established to provide tailored assistance to small to medium employers by developing workforce plans to address gaps in their workforce. These workforce plans allow small to medium businesses to access grants and initiatives relevant to their workforce challenges. To be eligible for the HR support grant, workforce plans must be completed in collaboration with an Industry Workforce Advisor.

What is the application process?

  1. Engage an Industry Workforce Advisor here.
  2. Your Industry Workforce Advisor will submit your completed workforce plan to the DESBT on your behalf.
  3.  Once DEBST has verified your eligibility, you will receive a link to complete your application form. Applications must include a minimum of two quotes from separate HR providers for the scope of works identified within the workforce plan. Our Workforce Advisory team can assist by providing one of these quotes.
  4. Submitted applications will be assessed by DEBST within 10 business days.
